LANSING, Mich. – A range of Michigan organizations is calling on the Legislature to pass the Housing Readiness Plan as the House Government Operations Committee hears testimony on housing reform proposals Thursday. 

The bipartisan Housing Readiness Plan modernizes outdated zoning rules while preserving public input, public hearings and other local safeguards. The plan also streamlines rules on residential building, parking requirements, dwelling and lot sizes, and clarifies development study and petition processes. 

Today, more than three dozen organizations reiterated their call for the Legislature to pass the Housing Readiness Plan, including the Home Builders Association, Michigan Chamber of Commerce, Michigan Realtors, Americans for Prosperity, Abundant Housing Michigan, the Michigan Environmental Council, Business Leaders for Michigan and many others. LANSING, Mich. — Michigan business groups joined environmental, real estate, housing advocacy, social service organizations, and diverse nonprofit groups today to call on the Legislature to pass the Housing Readiness Plan, a bipartisan, bicameral package of bills that can help rein in skyrocketing costs, boost housing supply and protect property rights.

Today, we launched an Action Network platform for individuals to send letters directly to their State Representative and Senator to ask them to support the Michigan Housing Readiness package (HB 5529-5532 & 5581-5585).

A pre-written message will be the default, and you can immediately send it right away if you want. You’re also free to rewrite it in any way you want.

MICHIGAN – Over 80% of Michigan voters agree that the state legislature should take action to address the costs and availability of homes, according to a new statewide poll. The survey conducted by YouGov on behalf of Abundant Housing Michigan assessed residents’ priorities, their views toward the current state of the housing market, and their support for new policies that would expand housing availability and affordability in the state.
